New Patients

Here at Vita our practitioners follow a functional medicine model, which combines an investigative diagnostic approach with dietary and lifestyle solutions to your health problem.   Each practitioner brings their unique experience and education to give our patients a high quality and individually customized healthcare experience. Please take a moment to review the process below and understand how we work with our patients.

After initially contacting our office you will be asked to fill out the new patient paperwork which includes a detailed health history questionnaire, an assessment of your chief complaints, a survey of your goals, and a review of your current dietary and lifestyle habits.  Additionally our office asks that you provide any previous lab work, imaging, and reports which are relevant to your case.   This information will be reviewed by our clinicians prior to your first visit in order to save time and help determine which laboratory diagnostic tests will be appropriate for you.

Your first visit with us will be 1-2 hours and include a review of your health history, a thorough physical assessment by your practitioner, in some cases a chiropractic treatment, and an order for a comprehensive blood chemistry panel. At this point or in future visits a recommendation for any further appropriate labs will be made. Common labs include one or more of the following:

  • Comprehensive blood chemistry panel: This test is the most affordable and effective way to get an overall view of your health. It can quickly assess for abnormalities with blood sugar regulation, liver and kidney function, cardiovascular health, thyroid and adrenal function, gastrointestinal health, inflammation, nutritional needs, and infections. Additionally, this test is important for establishing a baseline which can be used to track your progress over time.
  • Food Sensitivity/Allergy testing: The incidence of food sensitivities has increased dramatically over the years. It is estimated that up to 20% of the population have adverse reactions to foods. Autoimmune disorders, Skin disorders, GI dysfunction, and mood and behavior, including hyperactivity disorders in children, are profoundly influenced by food sensitivities.
  • Comprehensive Stool Testing: Gastrointestinal function is critical for good health. This test includes further insight into the type and amounts of gut flora, detection of infection, biomarkers indicating digestive and absorptive function, and level of gut inflammation. By evaluating targeted biomarkers, comprehensive stool testing can reveal hidden conditions that other stool tests may overlook.
  • Urine organic acids: a nutritional test that assesses urine metabolites in order to evaluate imbalances in energy production, neurotransmitter processing, detoxification, intestinal microbial activity, and vitamin/mineral sufficiency.
  • Salivary Hormone testing for adrenal and sex hormones: A comprehensive look at adrenal and sex hormone cycles can identify the root cause of disorders affecting your menstrual cycle, sex drive, sleep patterns, energy levels, and mood.

Once your testing is complete you will meet with your practitioner via phone, skype, or in office for a report of findings.  This report will include an explanation of all the information acquired from your initial visit and laboratory testing. Dietary, lifestyle, and supplementation therapies which are specific to your unique pattern will be recommended.  If additional testing is required your practitioner will discuss this with you as well.  All follow up appointments will be made based on necessity and your response to the recommended therapies.
